Bariatric Vitamins and Supplements with Fillers are not Recommended for WLS Patients
The vast majority of bariatric vitamins and supplements in the marketplace today whether in capsule, tablet, chewable, liquid, or powder form contain a high degree of filler. Fillers are manmade chemicals which are put in to vitamins and bariatric supplements, and their only purpose is to bind, flavor, sweeten, enlarge, color, or improve its overall appearance. It isn't uncommon to see filler percentages in gastric bypass vitamins as high as 45%.
Most likely the product you are using has a paragraph listed below the supplement facts which is an FDA required list of other ingredients within the product. This list is where you will find a list of manmade fillers which inhibit absorption and can cause a plethora of health issues. This list is as important; if not more important to read as are the supplement facts.
It is not a requirement by the FDA is to list the percentage fillers that is listed.
There is an old saying – “If there is a paragraph below the supplement facts, do not buy it.”
What you need are supplements that are 100% available to your system within five minutes and contain no fillers. This gives you the best results for maximizing absorption of the necessary nutrients.
If there are fillers and additives, you cannot get the full benefits of your gastric bypass vitamins and supplements.
Your Post Gastric Bypass Diet should not Include Fillers
Fillers are notorious for inhibiting critical micronutrient absorption. Fillers are an unnecessary absorption roadblock we choose not to gamble with. They should not be included in your gastric bypass diet. Fillers have been known to cause or exasperate the following issues in sensitive individuals:
Fillers in Bariatric Chewable Vitamins and Liquid Supplements
Bariatric chewable vitamins and liquid vitamins are tolerable due to the sweeteners, flavors, and colors they insert during the manufacturing process to make them palatable. If they contained no fillers, they would have a very unpleasant taste; therefore, no one would purchase them. The addition of fillers to make vitamins palatable is not an acceptable reason to risk the potential negative repercussions that can occur to your body over time.
These added ingredients do not allow all the necessary vitamins and supplements reach your important and vital organs. Essentially, you would be wasting money and risking your health for the convenience of chewing and swallowing your supplements.
